If you are in search of a place where even your own thoughts become part of that silence...
Roccalbegna extends over the higher part of the Albegna river valley on the southern slope of Mount Labbro.
The medieval town, built in the 13th century by the then Republic of Siena, extends between the Rocca with the ruins of the fortified castle of Aldobrandesche and Senei, and the stone which towers over the countryside.
La Rocca, which is still in good condition, was the smaller fortress used mainly as a spotting tower and as a last refuge in case of capitulation of the medieval town.

Going up to the peak of the "stone", and looking out through the medieval fortress bastions we can enjoy a spectacular panorama of the whole valley.
The borough in the past was very isolated from road communication and for this reason it limited its economic activity to traditional cultivation of cereal crop, wine and olive oil production.

You can see the predominance of forage cultivation and on a smaller scale that of olives. Where as the breeding of beef cattle is practiced on a much larger scale.
Coming to stay in this small country area you can savour the pleasures of re-discovering places where, even with human contact, have enchantingly remained the same over the years.
The clear water of the river Fiora will guide you, whether on horseback or by foot, along uncontaminated routes and places.
